A China: E A Transformacao Da Asia
In: Relações internacionais: R:I, Heft 38
ISSN: 1645-9199
The present paper explores the role of China in Asia's evolution in the international system, describing the political and security dynamics that has characterized its diverse "centres" -- East Asia, Northeast Asia or Southeast Asia -- and that, at the turning of the century, created the conditions for the emergence of a "Great Asia", concomitantly with the acknowledgement of China. The paper also approaches the various conflicts that have marked the history of the region during the Cold War and, despite the fact that its end was unable to bring to Asia the "Kantian peace", a "Lockean intermission" took place in the area, as a result of North-American unipolar preponderance and a long cycle of economic growth. Waltz, Morgenthau E Aron

More than thirty years ago, Kenneth N. Waltz wrote the reference book on the theory of international relations, acknowledged as such by all relevant schools of thought. Theory of International Politics is the dividing line between the classics and the moderns in the construction of the new theory: for the realists, it marked the beginning of neorealism or structural realism, and the new neoliberal and constructivist theories were developed from the Waltzian theory of the international system. Revisitacao De Paix Et Guerre Entre Les Nations

Raymond Aron's treaty is one of the three pivotal works that set the canon for the realist theory in international relations. The founding act of the realist school was performed by E. H. Carr's The Twenty Years' Crisis, 1919-1939 his manifesto against the idealistic utopias of collective security, yet the first step toward the elaboration of a theory was carried Out by Hans Morgenthau in his Politics Among Nations, published in 1948. The ultimate -- although conceivably not the last -- effort in this direction was made forty years later, by Kenneth Waltz's Theory of International Politics. Amidst the two, Paix et guerre entre les nations embodies the transition between the classical school, indebted to history, law and philosophy, and the structuralist avant-garde.
